Busy, Busy, Busy

Life is very busy with twins! I'm definitely using that as my excuse for why I haven't updated this blog in SO long. Ha!

The twins arrived on 02/17/2010. Kennedy Grace was born at 11:06pm and Carson Alexander at 11:07pm. Kennedy was 4 lb 11 oz and 18 inches long. Carson was 5 lb 0 oz and 18 inches long. We spent a very long 8 days at the hospital. Carson had to spend all of that time in the special care nursery (NICU) as he was having some difficulty holding his temperature and eating. Kennedy stayed with us in our room or the regular nursery the entire time. We were so incredibly happy to finally get released from the hospital and come home.

Time has been flying by ever since! I can't believe the twins are now 2 months old. They are growing and changing every day. They've started smiling at us now and it just melts our hearts. We couldn't possibly love anything more than we love our children.

I'm going to be updating the Powers Family Photo Album with their pictures soon. Be sure to check it out!

2 Peas in a Pod

I'm sure most of you already know, but Brad and I are having twins!! I have to get better at updating this blog more regularly....especially once the babies get here! So here's the story for those that don't know.

At the Sept. 6th (12 week) appointment, we saw the nurse practitioner instead of my doctor because she had been called away to deliver a baby. When performing the ultrasound, the nurse practioner thought she may have seen two babies! Brad and I also thought we saw two heads. But she said she couldn't be sure and Brad and I weren't sure about what we saw either. So, we had to patiently wait for 4 more weeks until our 16 week appointment on Oct. 6th.

At this appointment we told my doctor what the nurse practitioner had seen at the prior appointment and she said that she would take another look via ultrasound that day. At first when she looked at the monitor she said that it looked like just one baby, but the longer she looked she started to see what the nurse practitioner had seen. She sent us to get an ultrasound downstairs with the better & clearer ultrasound machines. So we waited about an hour or so and went in for the next ultrasound. As soon as the ultrasound began, the technician said, "Yep, you're having twins!" We couldn't believe it! Even though we knew there was a chance that there could be two, it was still quite a shock to learn that we were actually having twins for sure!

Our next appointment is Oct. 22nd where we'll do the anatomy scan and they'll hopefully confirm the gender of the two babies! We're so excited for that appointment!

Baby Powers - Due March 18, 2010!!!

In case you haven't heard, Brad and I are expecting our first child on March 18, 2010! We couldn't possibly be more excited! We've had so much fun sharing the news with our family and friends over the past several weeks. We really appreciate all of the well wishes from everyone! On August 3rd we were very blessed to have an early ultrasound done and we were able to see the baby and the heartbeat. It was amazing!

I'm anxiously awaiting the end of the 1st trimester to see if the nausea and exhaustion goes away. Prayers please! The last several days have been better so I'm hoping that continues. The only craving I've had so far is wanting soft pretzels and cheese. Weird craving! I've mainly just wanted to eat anything salty and haven't really wanted sweets at all. Which is weird for me!

My next appointment is September 8th where we're hoping to be able to hear the heartbeat. After that we'll be anxiously awaiting the day we get to find out if we're having a boy or a girl! That should be around the end of October or early November. We'll be sure to let everyone know!

I know all of you Powers' are hoping we can have the baby one day early for a St. Patrick's Day birth! I promise I'll do my best to have the little shamrock on the 17th! ;)

Another Car Bites the Dust!

Brad was in a car accident coming home from work on Friday. He's okay but experiencing a lot of pain and soreness due to whiplash. We went to the hospital and got him checked out on Friday because he had a severe headache, but the CT scan showed that everything was normal. The doctor said the headache was most likely from the muscle spasms. He gave him pain medicine and muscle relaxers.

The accident happened at the intersection of Mid Rivers Mall Dr. and Cottleville Parkway. Brad was the first car at a red light to come to a stop and the lady behind him never saw the light change. She rear ended him without even breaking. Yikes!

Brad is just resting up today and watching the Olympics. I'm just so thankful that he didn't sustain more serious injuries. It looks like we're going to be car shopping soon. What do you think?
